Q&A
djdigit a short retrospective:
- Sean Hanna began as a musician at age 5 playing violin. In the following twelve years he learned and played a variety of instruments including piano, pipe organ, trumpet, as well as analog (remember the Moog Synthesizer?) and digital synthesizers (in their advent). He also studied classical voice as well as music theory.
- djdigit began composing at age 14 and in three years wrote numerous piano pieces, choral pieces, and an original stage musical.
- Sean graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas and received a special diploma in Vocal Performance.
- In college he knew electronic music was his muse and studied Technology In Music & Related Arts at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio.
- In the early 90s Sean began programming intelligent dance floor light-shows and spinning early techno and trance tracks in some of the hottest clubs in Houston and Austin, Texas. Later becoming djdigit, he worked crowds into a frenzy playing the hottest progressive house and trance around.
- djdigit has also worked live with some of the hottest names in Club Culture including RuPaul, Kim Syms, Martha Wash, Boy George, Jimmy Somerville and the one and only Crystal Waters.
- Feeling a deep need to explore world philosophy, Sean took an extended sabatical from the dance music scene.
- Combining philosophy & world religions with music, his most common phrase to describe music is this: “When you listen to music you are only using your ears. If you experience it, you will use all of your senses. Music is to be experienced, like a first snowfall in winter. Open your mind to what the music says and let it take you to your most far away place. When you experience music, you experience the divine.”
- His debut CD, “Slipstream to the Divine” (2001) is a 70 minute, inspiring mix of Progressive House, Techno and Trance that will move your body from beginning to end. Two singles, “I Believe” and “Destination: Omega Q” found their way into the clubs and topped several internet dance charts.
- Years later — new and enduring fans continue to discover the slipstream in stores or through online music services like iTunes, Napster and Rhapsody.
- Today: djdigit will shake dance floors from L.A. to Ibiza and he’s got more music and more inspiration to share with the entire globe. Check out the Podcast and Experience “The Revolution”.
